DBT Comprehensive Program

At Mindful Healing, we offer a Comprehensive DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) program, or DBT by the book. A comprehensive program is designed for teens or young people struggling with intense emotion dysregulation, self-harm, or other self-destructive behaviors. You may have tried other programs or therapies and they haven’t worked for you. Comprehensive DBT consists of all components of DBT:

Skills Group: Groups focus on teaching clients the four core modules of DBT: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Individual Therapy: This is the main way of developing and refining the ability to apply skills taught in DBT skills group to daily life. DBT individual therapy is structured and focuses on increasing emotion awareness and problem solving.

DBT for Parents: Parents participate in sessions to learn how to support their teen’s use of DBT skills at home, how to communicate effectively within the family system, and how to respond to specific adolescent behaviors.

Phone Coaching: This part of the treatment is designed to promote skills use where it matters most – in daily life. Under certain circumstances teens have access to a therapist for a brief phone consultation to help coach them through a DBT skill. Phone coaching is only available to Comprehensive DBT clients. Our coaching app is available to all DBT clients.

Consultation Team: DBT therapists participate in regular consultation team meetings where they receive supervision, feedback, support. This helps ensure adherence to the DBT model and increase the effectiveness of treatment.
