Hi, I’m Elyse!
I help teens and young adults manage big emotions, navigate difficult situations, and develop healthier ways of coping when life feels overwhelming.
I do my best work with teens who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, impulsive or risky behaviors, family conflict, or simply feeling stuck.
I understand that teens don’t always walk into therapy excited to talk—and that’s okay. My goal is to create a space where teens can feel understood while also learning practical skills they can use when things get difficult outside of the therapy room.
My Credentials
My background includes extensive experience working with adolescents and families with complex behavioral and mental health needs.
Before joining Mindful Healing, I worked in an adolescent residential treatment program, where I provided comprehensive assessments and counseling, supported teens experiencing crises, and used Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help adolescents make meaningful behavioral changes.
My experience with DBT goes beyond using the skills in therapy. I also developed a DBT training curriculum and trained residential staff in using DBT principles and interventions consistently with the teens in their care.
I have also provided Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT), working individually with adolescents and alongside their families to address behavioral concerns, strengthen support systems, and create changes that could continue beyond treatment.
Most recently, my work with the State of Connecticut has allowed me to continue supporting teens and families with a wide range of mental health, behavioral, neurodevelopmental, and substance use concerns. This experience has strengthened my ability to understand the bigger picture surrounding a teen; not only their mental health, but also their family, school, relationships, environment, and support system.
My Approach
My approach to therapy is supportive, collaborative, and practical. I believe teens need a space where they can be themselves and feel understood, but I also believe therapy should give them concrete tools to make things better.
Using DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other evidence-based strategies, I help teens recognize patterns, better understand their emotions, improve their ability to cope with distress, and make healthier decisions when emotions are running high.
Rather than expecting teens to simply “know better,” I focus on helping them develop and practice the skills they need to do differently.
My goal is for teens to leave therapy with more confidence in their ability to handle difficult emotions, relationships, and situations AND with skills they can carry with them long after therapy ends.
